About me

Knowledge in motion

I am Marcos Rogério Martins Costa, a university professor in the Letters program and a researcher. My work connects language studies, teacher education, scientific literacy and critical reflection on artificial intelligence in education. I investigate how writing, science and technology can widen learning opportunities and strengthen intellectual authorship. All of this for a more inclusive, ethical and socially committed education.

Discursive semiotics

Being and seeming: how a text produces meaning

Semiotics is one of my research areas. Greimas’s semiotic square shows how combining being and seeming produces truth, lie, secret and falsity. Each side of the square is one of these relations.

Greimas's semiotic square of veridiction: being and seeming make truth; seeming and non-being, a lie; being and non-seeming, a secret; non-being and non-seeming, falsity. beingseemingnon-seemingnon-being truthfalsityliesecret

Truth: it is, and it seems to be.

From research to the classroom

From Birigui to the public university

I was born in Birigui, in the countryside of São Paulo state, the city known as the Pérola do Noroeste (Pearl of the Northwest). I built a career devoted to education and to the public circulation of knowledge.

I hold a PhD and a master’s degree in Letters from USP and did postdoctoral research at UnB and Fiocruz. Today I am a university professor in the Letters program.

From 2020 to 2026 I was a co-founder of Escrita com Ciência. I mention it only as part of my history: this site does not offer services, consulting or paid courses.
